I got a laptop with a Geforce 8600M GS that seems to split into 6 screens even at POST. But when I uninstall the drivers for the card in Windows, the 6 way split disappears all together? :S

so if you watch porn, you can watch the same thing 6 times at once? That's 12 titties bouncing around! Sorry, not so technical. Take it google doesn't reveal others reporting said issue? Tried nVidea support?

sounds like a driver profile is still in your system, use driver sweeper in safe mode to remove all traces of your graphics drivers, then cc cleaner to clean your registry. then run a search for nvidia and delete anything it finds as your video profile may be stored somewhere else like my docs etc. then you should be able to re install your vid driver

I actually found out that the problem is hardware related. But.... get this. Its to do with the solder joints. Guess what the solution is, lol. Heat the chip to 200C for 5 mins. I personally chose to use the hair drier. Works a treat now.

Yeah thankfully my laptop GPU is on a seperated PCB. But yes, I did see that the oven trick is used too. To be perfectly honest, it could probs do with reballing. I just don't have the equipment at my disposal.
