i want to pull a network cable from the router on the ground floor to my pc on the second floor, but running on the outside of the house. i used to have it inside, hanging in the gap between the stair and hallway but that was hardly a proper solution. also tried a powerline adapter yesterday but the performance fluctuates, from 78Mb/s which was acceptable to 30Mb/s later in the day, which obviously isn't (compared to the utp cable's 94Mb/s).

so wanting the least hassle installing a more permanent cable, running it on the outside of the house seems best (a coax cable was done similarly before). which type of cable should i go for though? it'll be outside 24/7 so it must be weather proof,...
i also read that it could pose a hazard in regards to lightning strikes but with other powerlines, the coax, ... running just fine on the outside walls of the houses in the street, it doesn't seem very likely?

i was thinking s-stp / s/ftp cat5e cable, but then i found specific ftp outdoor ones. would the lack of individual pair shielding be noticable at all? i've only been able to find the outdoor cable in rolls of 100 or 305 meters, but i'll probably only need about 40. is there anywhere i could find it in shorter lengths?

i already have the cat5 hooked up, just have to drill some holes and pull it along the wall, so i'll stick to that. it'll be a while before we'll get more than 100Mb/s from isp's in belgium anyhow.
